The Man Repeller
Leandra Medine, founder of The Man Repeller, contacted me for a website redesign after she decided it was time for a refresh. I had worked with Leandra for years, working one-on-one with her with each new fashion season creating the brand identity for her site via the runway header images. It was here that I realized we had a lot in common in our love of fashion and balancing that with practicality.
The Man Repeller had propelled to international fashion darling via her humble blog hosted on Google’s Blogger platform, but was looking to expand her content offering to her loyal audiences around the world. The Man Repeller platform is an extension of Leandra Medine’s ideology. She believes that women should dress for themselves, never apologize for their interest in fashion, and still have a seat at the table to discuss meatier, political, health, and cultural issues.
Man Repeller relaunched their website in late 2013 to better position themselves as more than just a fashion blog, but a destination for like-minded fashionable individuals to chat about the latest trends, outfits, and other pop culture topics.
The new site had to be dynamic and innovative, yet intuitive enough to encourage increased time and participation on the Man Repeller site. New features, such as chat rooms, and a custom search navigation was created, enhancing the content and the voice of Man Repeller.
High fidelity wireframes in the planning stages were crucial in discussing proposed functionality and pre-determining development needs.
Final designs had to accommodate potential advertisers and sponsorship opportunities, so flexibility and functionality were key, along with a clean and intuitive design. While a feature carousel was initially proposed, per user testing, the design was streamlined prior to launch to cut the distance between a user and the latest blog posts.
